Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)
Desired Qualifications
Candidates do not need to meet every requirement; relevant experience paired with a dedication to community-focused education is highly regarded.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
- Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
- Background in bilingual or ESL teaching settings
- Experience teaching in cross-cultural or Northern Canadian contexts
Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Familiarity with differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Training or experience using current assessment methods to guide learning
- Experience in fostering a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)
Relationships & Student Engagement
- Demonstrated ability to establish respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders
- Experience in promoting student wellbeing and engagement
- Involvement with students outside the classroom, when appropriate

- Experience in collaboratively planning lessons and student support
