Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Candidates do not need to meet every requirement; relevant experience paired with a dedication to community-focused education is highly regarded.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
  • Background in bilingual or ESL teaching settings
  • Experience teaching in cross-cultural or Northern Canadian contexts

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Familiarity with differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Training or experience using current assessment methods to guide learning
  • Experience in fostering a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Demonstrated ability to establish respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders
  • Experience in promoting student wellbeing and engagement
  • Involvement with students outside the classroom, when appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning lessons and student support
  • Experience as a cooperative member of a school team
