About you:

We are looking for an exceptional Head of English to lead our department and promote excellence within our Secondary school. This position combines teaching and middle leadership responsibilities, requiring the successful applicant to maintain an active teaching role while delivering high-quality English instruction throughout the Secondary level.

Ideal candidates will:

• Be energetic, passionate, and well-qualified, possessing at least a B.Ed. or a B.A. with a PGCE in English, along with QTS.

• Have a proven track record of outstanding teaching and learning, with experience in teaching English at Key Stage 3, GCSE & A Level, and achieving strong results for students.

• Demonstrate the ability to balance strategic leadership with an active teaching load, showcasing best practices in the classroom.

• Provide clear strategic direction for the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and achievement across all phases.

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of English teachers, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and accountable culture.

• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and the sharing of best practices within the department.

• Exhibit a growth mindset, being reflective, adaptable, and solution-focused.

• Be creative, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking, inspiring both students and staff.

• Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, building strong relationships with colleagues, students, and parents.

• Effectively use data and assessments to guide decision-making, enhance attainment, and support student progress.

• Be committed to contributing to a world-class educational environment, with a strong focus on professional development.

• Dedicate themselves to providing enriching learning experiences for students both inside and outside the classroom.
