About This Role
GEMS American Academy in Qatar is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to become a part of our Elementary School team. The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2026.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Uphold and promote the ethos and standards of excellence as outlined in the GEMS Core Values.
- Deliver the prescribed curriculum while demonstrating comprehensive and current knowledge of the subject matter.
- Plan and conduct engaging lessons that inspire students, utilizing appropriate materials and creating a classroom environment that accommodates various learning styles.
- Provide written documentation of lesson planning and preparation upon request, and maintain organized records of curriculum plans, attendance, teaching resources, and assessment strategies.
- Adhere to GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct consistently.
- Teach assigned students based on their individual needs, employing effective teaching strategies tailored to diverse groups, including late entrants, ESL learners, and those with varying academic abilities.
- Assign and grade student work, assess and document academic development, progress, and achievement, and utilize assessment data to ensure the curriculum is responsive to each student's needs.
- Demonstrate proficiency in integrating media and technology into classroom instruction.
- Support the overall progress and well-being of students, providing guidance on educational matters.
- Liaise with external parties, such as Ministry of Education officials, when necessary.
- Engage in appraisal and Performance Management processes, as well as Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Collaborate with colleagues in the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, curricular studies, and pastoral care initiatives.
- Participate in, and lead as appropriate, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs within the school. Foster positive working relationships through proactive leadership and sharing of ideas, materials, and experiences.
- Monitor and supervise students to ensure safe and appropriate behavior, and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline while managing disruptive behavior.
- Model and promote cultural awareness and understanding, instilling a passion for learning.
- Assist with the planning and organization of school events and functions, such as inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, and prize days.
- Regularly communicate with and meet parents, promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents informed about their children's progress while safeguarding the confidentiality of student information.
- Exhibit initiative and commitment beyond the standard workday when tasks require additional effort.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in committees as needed.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by direct and dotted-line managers or supervisors.
