Job Title: Secondary Drama Teacher

Job Overview
The Canadian International School of Guangzhou is seeking a passionate and creative Drama Teacher to provide engaging drama education for students in Grades 6-12. The successful candidate will teach drama classes integrated within the Alberta Education curriculum, promoting students' artistic talents and creative expression. Additionally, the Drama Teacher will commit to offering one school theatre production each year, enriching the school’s cultural landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Instruction
Teach drama classes for Grades 6-12 according to the Alberta (Canada) Education curriculum.
Develop and deliver engaging curricula that cover various aspects of drama, including acting techniques, script analysis, improvisation, and stagecraft.
Curriculum Development
Design and implement drama programs that cater to diverse student populations, ensuring integration with inquiry-based learning.
Collaborate with other teachers to create interdisciplinary projects that enhance students' overall learning experiences.
Assessment and Evaluation
Assess student performance in drama, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate records of student progress for effective communication with parents and students.
Classroom Environment
Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom atmosphere that encourages creativity, experimentation, and self-expression.
Professional Development and Collaboration
Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with trends in drama education and collaborate with colleagues to enhance teaching methodologies.
Duties and Community Engagement
School Events and Productions: Develop and implement drama activities that contribute to school events and lead the annual school theatre production, engaging students in all aspects of production from acting to stage management.
Community Engagement: Foster connections between students and the larger community through performances, workshops, and events.
Showcases and Festivals: Organize and participate in drama showcases, allowing students to present their work in an engaging and supportive environment.
Extra-Curricular Activities: Lead drama clubs and encourage participation in external drama competitions and festivals, promoting students’ talents beyond the classroom.
Social Media and Online Platforms: Utilize social media to share student performances and organize virtual showcases, fostering community involvement and appreciation for the arts.
Service Learning Projects: Develop projects where students can engage in community service through drama, promoting positive community impact and social awareness.
Education and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education with a major in Drama, Theatre Arts, or a related field.
Certification: Teaching certification that meets the requirements for certification with Alberta Education.
Experience: Prior experience teaching the Alberta curriculum is highly desirable. A minimum of two years of teaching experience in drama or a related field is preferred.
