About This Role
Avenor College is on the lookout for a knowledgeable, effective, and experienced Head of Science to lead a dynamic, diverse, and collaborative department within our three modern, fully equipped laboratories housed in the cutting-edge Senior building. The Science department is made up of seven Science teachers and two lab technicians. Our college offers numerous opportunities for personal and professional development through a model that empowers educators with voice, choice, and agency.
Currently, we offer two IGCSE pathways: CAIE Coordinated Science (Double Award) and CAIE Separate Sciences (Triple Award). Our Key Stage 3 curriculum features a Romanian national strand in Science for a select group of students, while the majority engage with the UK National Curriculum through an in-house scheme that emphasizes the cultivation of investigative skills. At the AS and A Level, students have the option to study Biology, Chemistry, and Physics under the Cambridge International Curriculum.

- Possess extensive and adaptable subject knowledge to design and facilitate learning in at least two sciences at IGCSE and at least one at A Level;
- Hold valid qualifications as a Science teacher;
- Understand student learning processes, inspiring and challenging them to create engaging learning experiences;
- Leverage the scientific cycle of inquiry to enhance investigative skills across all year groups;
- Lead curriculum development by updating schemes of work and collaborating with other subject leaders for cohesive articulation;
- Create opportunities for Science learning beyond the classroom by contributing to our robust co-curricular program;
- Be fluent in English;
- Inspire trust and confidence among students, parents, and colleagues;
