Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
· Bachelor of Education degree
· Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways to Teach Canada)

Experience
· At least 2 years in a formal or informal school leadership role (e.g., Vice-Principal, department head, instructional coach, or teacher-leader)
· Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience

· Proven commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive school climate that supports the well-being of both students and staff.
· Demonstrated ability to collaborate with the Principal in supporting instructional leadership, focusing on literacy development and inclusive practices.
· Proven experience in contributing to instructional improvement through coaching, professional learning communities (PLCs), and utilizing student achievement data to enhance student success.
· Ability to establish and nurture positive, respectful relationships with students, staff, families, and community members, particularly in northern and cross-cultural settings.

Assets and Preferred Experience
Language and Cultural Assets
· Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written).
· Experience in supporting Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education.
· Background in supporting bilingual and ESL programming.

Instructional Leadership
· Graduate-level training in education.
· Experience in fostering positive school-wide behavior and learning environments (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports).

School Operations & Systems
· Experience in implementing operational directives and departmental requirements, including working with the District Education Authority (DEA) and Regional School Operations (RSO).
· Experience with site-based school operations, such as scheduling, supervision, student support processes, or contributing to school improvement planning.
· Familiarity with school-based budgeting or resource management, aiding fiscally responsible decision-making under the Principal's guidance.

Compensation and Benefits
· Salary Range (Certified Vice-Principal): from $108,201 prorated/annum to $157,970 prorated/annum.
· Nunavut Northern Allowance for Qikiqtarjuaq, Nunavut: $22,638 prorated/annum.
· Subsidized Housing: Available, though sharing may be required.

Conditions of Employment
· Candidates currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must possess a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
· Applicants from outside Nunavut must submit a copy of a current public-school teaching certificate from a recognized Canadian jurisdiction. Applications lacking this documentation will not be considered.
· Principals and Vice-Principals are required to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility as a Nunavut Principal within three years of employment.
