Scope of Responsibility
All staff at GUIS are responsible for creating a safe and developmentally suitable environment, in line with the GUIS program philosophy, school policies, and procedures. The teacher's role is crucial for delivering outstanding lessons while supporting both the academic and personal development of students. In keeping with the school’s vision and values, teachers are expected to foster a nurturing, engaging, and inclusive educational atmosphere that drives student success, encourages intellectual curiosity, and inspires a love for learning.
Major Duties:
Safeguarding and Wellbeing:
- Ensure the safety, wellbeing, and positive conduct of all members of the community.
- Comply with GUIS's safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
According to the teaching standards applicable to NCPA, teachers are to:
- Plan and implement well-structured, engaging lessons.
- Adapt instructional methods to accommodate the diverse strengths and needs of all students.
- Evaluate, track, and document students' progress, using data-driven instructional techniques to improve teaching and learning.
- Establish a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that promotes progress for every student.
- Contribute to the formulation and execution of the school's curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Recognize and strive to enhance literacy and oracy in all instructional sessions.
Whole-School Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school's policies, practices, and procedures to support the school’s vision and values, with a specific emphasis on the Social and Emotional Wellbeing of students.
- Engage in the wider life and ethos of the school, including extracurricular activities and school events.
- Assist with up to six marketing events throughout the academic year, as required.
- Provide coverage for colleagues when requested.
Specific NCPA Duties:
- Teachers are expected to maintain an average of 22 contact hours per week, which includes classroom instruction, office hours, invigilation, and advisory/homeroom responsibilities. The specific assignments for each duty will be determined by the Head of School/Division.
- Teaching load (80 min/lesson): A maximum of 5 blocks over two days.
- Office Hour: Four hours each week.
- Advisory: Two sessions of 30 minutes each week.
- Co-Curricular Activities (CCA): 30 hours per academic year (unpaid).
- Marketing & Admissions days: Up to six unpaid days to support marketing events as needed.
Required Qualifications, Skills, Experience, and Attributes:
- An internationally recognized teaching qualification.
- Proficiency in the language of instruction.
- Strong subject knowledge and expertise in the relevant subject areas.
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, well-organized lessons that meet student needs.
- Effective classroom management skills, capable of maintaining a positive, safe, and productive learning environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, promoting collaboration with colleagues, parents, and students.
