As a member of our founding team, your role will be crucial in fostering a vibrant and inclusive community where each individual’s learning is prioritized. Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up equipment, chemicals, and supplies for junior and senior chemistry, physics, and biology labs under the teacher's direction.
  • Prepare molar solutions of acids by diluting concentrated solutions; calculate the relative volumes of concentrated acid and water.
  • Determine the necessary mass and prepare standard solutions of salts and bases.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to regulations concerning hazardous materials, including following waste regulations and proper disposal procedures for chemicals.
  • Clean up hazardous spills, such as mercury and acids/bases, and provide first aid in case of chemical incidents as needed.
  • Maintain chemical storage standards.
  • Prepare buffer solutions at specified pH levels, calibrate the pH meter, and create chemical indicator and biological stain solutions with the correct quantities of reagents.
  • Conduct titrations to confirm the concentration of standardized solutions.
  • Maintain and repair laboratory equipment such as electroscopes and ray boxes.
  • Sterilize equipment and clean glassware using suitable solvents.
  • Manage a set of reagents for specific laboratory activities.
  • Assist teachers in grading objective student work.
  • Aid teachers in supervising activities, including field trips.
  • Oversee the inventory of lab equipment and chemical supplies, including ordering and managing necessary chemicals and gases such as helium, hydrogen, and oxygen, under the guidance of the Science staff; maintain the inventory spreadsheet for budgeting purposes.
  • Order textbooks and other supplies through the custodian and/or office supply company as directed by the Science staff.
  • Provide information and assistance to students, staff, parents, and the public via telephone or in person.
  • Perform other comparable or transient duties that align with the knowledge and skills required for this job.

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject.

Experience:

  • Experience working with children or in a school environment, preferably in a similar capacity.

Competencies:

  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Enthusiastic and skilled in working with students.
  • Strong team player, able to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Able to take initiative.
