Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers who do not hold a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Candidates are not required to meet all qualifications; relevant experience and a commitment to community-driven education will be highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both verbal and written)
  • Experience with education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in teaching within bilingual or ESL contexts
  • Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational settings

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Training or experience in using contemporary assessment strategies to enhance learning
  • Experience in creating a positive learning environment through effective classroom management practices (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Skill in establishing respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
  • Experience in fostering student well-being and engagement
  • Participation with students outside the classroom when appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and support for students
  • Ability to function effectively as part of a school team
