Headteacher – Aurora Coalville School
Location: Coalville, Leicestershire
Contract Type: Permanent, full-time
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £86,803 - £95,735 (L22 - L26) per annum, depending on qualifications and experience
Start date: As early as April 2026 or thereafter

Aurora Coalville School is set to welcome its first students in late 2026, and we are seeking an outstanding Headteacher to guide and develop this innovative educational facility. This is a unique chance to be involved in a truly transformative initiative.
Aurora Coalville will serve as a supportive, inclusive, and ambitious center for children and young people aged 5–19 who have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and Communication and Interaction challenges. With a capacity to accommodate 120 students across three sites, our goal is to cultivate a safe, enriching, and aspirational environment where every learner can succeed.
The role:
In your capacity as Headteacher, you will collaborate closely with our central teams and senior leadership to establish the foundation of our new school, imprinting your vision on the ethos, culture, and strategic direction from the outset.
You will play a crucial role in recruiting and assembling your entire team, as well as designing and implementing a new curriculum that aligns with the core values of Aurora.
As with all Headteacher roles, you will ultimately hold accountability for the operational and educational performance of the school, alongside financial management and oversight of educational and support staff.
To excel in this position, you should be someone who fosters creativity and collaboration, possesses strong leadership skills, and is a passionate advocate for your students, with a proven history of school improvements and effective educational outcomes that positively impact each student.

Skills and Qualifications
Ideal candidates will likely possess the following:
- Qualified Teacher Status with an additional professional qualification in a relevant field. Candidates with Headteacher qualifications (such as NPQH) or a willingness to pursue such qualifications are preferred.
- Experience in a senior leadership role within a Special Educational Needs (SEN) setting.
- A comprehensive understanding of Ofsted frameworks and safeguarding legislation as they pertain to independent schools.
- Background in quality assurance.
- Experience in team management.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
