Skills, Experience & Responsibilities:

Pupils:

1. Act in loco parentis for all students within the house, prioritizing their health, safety, happiness, and overall well-being.

2. Recognize and understand the individual circumstances, needs, strengths, and challenges of each student to nurture their talents and potential.

3. Fulfill scheduled weeknight and weekend duties, including organizing and leading weekend outings.

4. Be aware of students’ academic strengths and weaknesses; work together with Heads of Boarding, boarding staff, teachers, and tutors to ensure their backgrounds are understood and that evening prep conditions support effective academic progress.

5. Provide support for students facing academic, social, emotional, or behavioral issues.

6. Promptly report any child protection concerns to the Safeguard Lead, complying with the school's child protection and safeguarding policy.

Management:

1. Ensure that parents and pupils understand the aims and objectives of boarding in the house, as well as the principles guiding community life.

2. Collaborate with school nurses, doctors, and residential boarding staff to meet students' medical needs and promote a healthy lifestyle.

3. Work alongside the boarding team and housekeeping staff to encourage respect for personal belongings and the furnishings of the house.

4. Maintain open lines of communication with pupils; ensure that family-related incidents and issues are conveyed to the appropriate parties.

5. Ensure all boarding staff members (including non-teaching personnel and senior pupils when appropriate) are familiar with the school's policies on child protection, bullying prevention, substance misuse, and health and safety, and understand the required responses.

6. Together with other boarding staff, ensure that the boarding house is adequately staffed, covering duties and being available for emergencies as necessary.

Child Protection:

Complete necessary child protection training before starting work in the boarding house.

Engage in induction training with the Head of Boarding and Assistant Head of Boarding before commencing responsibilities in the boarding house.

Comply with and implement the Schools Safeguarding Policy.

Administration:

Stay updated on the National Minimum Standards for Boarding Schools concerning the welfare and pastoral care of boarding students.

Keep accurate boarding records in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures.

Conditions of Appointment:

Residency in provided accommodation within the boarding house is required. A one-bedroom apartment with full board and lodging will be provided.

Within School Role:

The Graduate Boarding Assistant will also assist the Senior School during standard school hours and may be asked to support some or all of the following:

• Lead or assist with an Extra-Curricular Activity when appropriate.

• Provide support to the pastoral team as a pastoral manager.

• Offer cover support within the school as needed.

• Carry out three break/lunch duties weekly.

• Engage with boarding student teachers and remain active in school life.
