Academic Progression at Harrow Beijing
Early Years (Pre-nursery - Year 1)
In the Early Years, our kindergarten program embraces the EYAHC framework, fostering curiosity, independence, and happiness among students. Children engage in an individualized curriculum that nurtures creative thinking and vital life skills, recognizing the uniqueness of each child. They also participate in specialist-led lessons in Physical Education, Music, and Languages.
Lower School Phase (Years 2-6)
During the Lower School phase, children further develop their literacy, numeracy, and computing abilities. The focus is on cultivating a love for reading while teaching essential skills in writing, Mathematics, and Coding. As they advance through Pre Prep, students are introduced to specialized subjects such as Languages, Music, Physical Education, Computing, Art and Design Technology, and Science.
Upper School (Years 7-11)
Drawing on best practices from British Preparatory Schools and international Middle Schools, our Upper School curriculum combines core subjects taught by specialists, including English, Mandarin, Mathematics, Science, and Coding, with additional subjects like Art, Drama, Design Technology, Geography, History, Music, and Physical Education. Students in Years 7 and 8 engage in a comprehensive “Prep” education that leads to diverse GCSE options and prepares them for A-level studies.
Our Senior School program builds upon the knowledge and skills gained in the Prep phase, becoming increasingly rigorous as students prepare for national and international examinations. Focusing on IGCSEs (typically taken in Year 11), students are challenged academically across subjects such as Art, Biology, Chemistry, Computing, Design Technology, Drama, English, Geography, History, Languages, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Education, Music, Economics, Media, Mandarin, and Business Studies.
The Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13)
After completing their IGCSEs, students transition to the 'Sixth Form' phase, gearing up for university success. They embark on a two-year A-Level course, recognized globally as the gold standard of British education. The Sixth Form years are both demanding and rewarding, allowing students to focus on subjects in which they excel and to study them at an advanced level. Many students undertake an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) to enhance their research skills and delve deeper into topics of personal interest. Additionally, students can engage in school leadership by assuming key roles such as Prefect, Senior Prefect, Head Girl, Head Boy, members of the Student Academic Leadership Team, and the Student Council.
