The British School, Alexandria
Recruiting Institution
View Full School Profile & VacanciesWe recently marked our 40th Anniversary and remain a prominent educational institution in Alexandria and its vicinity. Our close ties with the British Embassy are highlighted by our Patron, Her Britannic Majesty's Ambassador to Egypt. Our school operates as a thoughtfully small British international establishment for students aged 3 to 18, accommodating 520 learners. We are recognized by the DfE and hold accreditation as a member of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). Known for our high academic achievements and progressive approach, we enjoy a stellar reputation. We are dedicated to fostering exceptional learning and teaching within a nurturing environment. Our school offers a supportive and welcoming atmosphere, characterized by strong relationships between staff and students. We place a high value on the professional development of our team.
Children in the Foundation stage engage with the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, while those in the subsequent Key Stages follow the British National Curriculum. In Key Stage 4, students prepare for IGCSEs, and in the Sixth Form, they pursue A-levels. Although our curriculum is rooted in the British educational system, we strive to integrate the history, geography, language, and culture of Egypt, along with a robust international perspective. Additionally, all students partake in Arabic studies.
Our vision is to deliver a high-quality 3-18 British International education in Alexandria, anchored by exceptional teaching aimed at developing knowledgeable, compassionate, respectful global citizens and lifelong learners, equipped with both the desire and skills to contribute positively to the world.
A significant portion of our student body consists of Egyptian nationals, complemented by a diverse representation of over 23 nationalities, including individuals from neighboring Middle Eastern and African nations, as well as a smaller group from Europe.
Alexandria is a vibrant, welcoming, and cosmopolitan city along the Mediterranean, rich in historical significance. Teaching in this city is both relaxed and secure, with a relatively low cost of living and a sufficient infrastructure of shops, cafes, and restaurants that allow for a European lifestyle. Many teachers find they can save at least 50% of their earnings while enjoying the opportunity to explore Egypt. Although Egypt may occasionally feature in the news, life in Alexandria is, in reality, comparable to living in any major city, with no notable security concerns and a strong, stable government.
The temperate Mediterranean climate of Alexandria offers cooler summers and milder winters compared to other regions of Egypt. During the winter months of January and February, occasional rainy days bring temperatures ranging from 10 to 20°C, while summer is characterized by a refreshing sea breeze, with temperatures spanning from 22 to 34°C.
