Background
St. Peter’s International School (SPIS), established in Palmela, Portugal, is the oldest international school in the region. The institution offers a competitive, high-caliber education tailored to a diverse student body. SPIS employs a distinctive pedagogical approach, with teaching methods that are highly personalized and catered to each student. We place a strong emphasis on sports and the arts, recognizing their essential role in every student's development.
Celebrating over 30 years of excellence, SPIS is committed to providing a multicultural environment that includes approximately 40 different nationalities, ensuring that students are continually exposed to various cultures and languages.
The school offers a bilingual curriculum for students from Kindergarten to Grade 4, followed by the Portuguese curriculum supplemented with English, Spanish, and Latin from Grade 5 to Grade 9. Students in Grades 9 to 12 can choose between the National Portuguese curriculum or the IGCSE+IB pathway. This diverse curriculum ensures that students receive a comprehensive education that prepares them for further studies in Portugal or abroad.
SPIS is dedicated to evolving and enhancing its curriculum, facilities, and overall environment for students and families. The school continually strives to improve and believes that every student has the potential to achieve greatness and find fulfillment from an early age.
Recognized as one of the safest countries globally, Portugal, combined with its appealing climate, has attracted numerous families from around the world in recent years. In an effort to strengthen international ties, SPIS is excited to introduce St. Peter’s International Boarding School, featuring a new building and boarding options that will foster a more bilingual atmosphere and international curriculum. Boarding students will enjoy comfortable accommodations within a modern and secure campus, making them feel right at home.
Ethos & Aims
In today’s fast-paced and ever-evolving world, education has emerged as a crucial factor, carrying significant social responsibilities.
SPIS is an international institution that delivers a competitive, high-quality education designed to meet the needs of a diverse student community. Given the cosmopolitan nature of the school, students from various nationalities collaborate, enhancing the importance of the English language throughout the educational experience from Kindergarten to Secondary School. Additionally, the acquisition of other languages such as Spanish, German, and Latin enriches students' understanding of the school’s social context and different cultural perspectives, promoting interdisciplinary knowledge and values while enhancing competitiveness in the global job market.

The school features a diverse and experienced teaching team committed to creating innovative and stimulating learning environments across all subject areas. Since its inception, SPIS has consistently evolved, modernized, and invested in a multicultural educational framework, responding to the needs and aspirations of its globally-sourced student body. Recognizing early childhood as a critical phase in development, SPIS prioritizes the first years of children's lives, focusing on their physical, intellectual, and emotional growth. In the Nursery School and Kindergarten, a pedagogical approach draws on best practices from diverse global education systems.
The school implements a differentiated curriculum in both Portuguese and English, utilizing the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology. SPIS is grounded in values of academic and moral excellence, providing students with high educational standards, a supportive teaching environment, and a solid foundation in personal and social education through the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, and behavior.
English remains a central part of the curriculum, enabling students to pursue international certification through the University of Cambridge. With an ethos centered on mutual respect and kindness, SPIS integrates sports, arts, and specialized subject knowledge into a context that continually adapts to contemporary educational models. The dynamic and differentiated teaching strategies, alongside supplementary lessons and skill development sessions, foster the acquisition of increasingly advanced competencies.
In the International Section, SPIS offers students the chance to immerse themselves in a multicultural educational environment.
