Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligible for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

While candidates are not expected to meet every qualification, relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are greatly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets
  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience with education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in bilingual or ESL teaching environments
  • Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian teaching settings
Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
  • Understanding of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Knowledge of current assessment strategies to guide learning
  • Capability to cultivate a positive learning atmosphere through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)
Relationships & Student Engagement
  • Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
  • Proven ability to foster student wellbeing and engagement
  • Experience interacting with students outside of the classroom as necessary
Collaboration & Professional Practice
  • Experience in collaboratively planning instruction and student support
  • Ability to connect with students and families to enhance educational experiences
