Experience and knowledge
- Experience working with babies aged 0–2, including leading practice within a baby room
- Experience supporting children’s learning, development and care routines
- Strong understanding of child development, attachment and the EYFS framework
- Experience working with parents and families
- Good understanding of safeguarding and early identification of need
- Experience supporting children with a range of needs, including SEND
Skills and abilities
- Ability to lead high-quality care and learning within a baby room
- Ability to model strong practice and support the development of other staff
- Ability to plan, assess and monitor children’s learning and development
- Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with babies, families and colleagues
- Ability to organise routines and environments to support high-quality provision
- Strong communication skills, including working with parents and external professionals
Desirable experience and skills
- Experience as a room lead or in a leadership role within early years
- Experience coaching or mentoring other practitioners
- Experience supporting early communication and language development
- Confidence using assessment information to inform provision
- Experience working in partnership with external agencies
