About the Academic English Pathway (AEP)

The Academic English Pathway (AEP) is a thorough and immersive English program specifically designed for non-native speakers entering Years 5–8 (Ages 10–14).

This year-long initiative equips students with essential English language skills, academic competencies, and subject knowledge necessary for a successful transition into mainstream classes. The curriculum is developed by the AEP Curriculum Committee and aligns with AISM’s educational standards.

Who Are We Looking For

We are looking for a passionate and committed EAL / Language Acquisition specialist who thrives in an immersive English language learning setting.

As the lead educator responsible for focused English language acquisition skills—Grammar, Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking—you will collaborate closely with colleagues from various subjects to weave language development throughout the AEP curriculum. You are a team player, adaptable, and devoted to meeting the program's intensive requirements. You possess in-depth knowledge of second language acquisition theory and practice, utilizing innovative, evidence-based methods to enhance English proficiency for learners from diverse linguistic backgrounds. This position offers a significant degree of ownership and empowerment.

Job Description

The EAL / Language Acquisition Teacher is a reflective educator who applies research-supported language teaching strategies to create positive learning environments that motivate and challenge all students to improve their English language proficiency across all four domains (listening, speaking, reading, writing).

The teacher will conduct specialized EAL lessons, support content-area colleagues with language-focused co-teaching and co-planning, and serve as Staff Mentor for a select group of students.

Role & Responsibilities

The EAL / Language Acquisition Teacher will:

  • Deliver engaging, well-structured EAL lessons that systematically improve students’ English language proficiency in grammar, listening, reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Design and implement targeted language instruction that accelerates students’ academic English development and prepares them for mainstream classroom expectations.
  • Collaborate with content-area educators (Mathematics, Science, Language and Literature, Humanities) to co-plan and co-teach, ensuring language acquisition is integrated across all subjects.
  • Evaluate, monitor, and assess students’ English language proficiency using appropriate EAL assessment tools and frameworks.
  • Apply the AEP content-based language instruction approach, differentiating for varying levels of English proficiency and learning needs.
  • Ensure a comprehensive understanding and application of the approved AEP curriculum within their teaching areas.
  • Prepare, assess, return, and maintain assessment tasks, tests, and examinations to a high standard.
  • Work with designated students to develop and monitor progress in line with their individual learning goals.
  • Provide student reports and progress updates at scheduled intervals and to a high standard.
