About This Role

Māruawai College is seeking a passionate and relationship-focused English teacher to join our senior campus team.

We are a welcoming school where staff work collaboratively, students feel safe to learn, and learning relationships come first. Our English classrooms value creativity, critical thinking, and real-world relevance, and we are looking for a teacher who shares this philosophy.

You will thrive here if you:

  • enjoy building strong, respectful relationships with young people
  • are enthusiastic about teaching English from Year 9 through to senior levels
  • can inspire confidence in reading, writing, and thinking
  • value collaboration, support, and professional trust
  • are committed to ongoing professional growth.

Ability to teach senior English (NCEA, up to Level 3 preferred) is an advantage.

Why Māruawai College - and why Gore?

Living and working in Gore offers a lifestyle that’s increasingly hard to find.

  • Affordable housing and the time to actually enjoy it.
  • Short commutes and a genuine work-life balance.
  • Easy access to the outdoors - rivers, mountains, and coastlines.
  • A supportive community where people know your name.

A schoolhouse is available with this position, easing the transition for teachers relocating to the area.

We are keen to hear from teachers who hold current New Zealand teacher registration and are legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
