English teacher - HOD

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the planning activities within the department, integrating curriculum mapping, assessment approaches, and ensuring conformity with school goals and external examination criteria.
• Support, mentor, and foster the professional growth of departmental staff through lesson assessments, performance reviews, and the promotion of best teaching methods.
• Create and deliver engaging, structured English lessons.
• Adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of students and promote academic advancement at all levels.
• Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and well-organized classroom environment that encourages high standards of behavior and student engagement.
• Effectively use both formative and summative assessments to monitor progress, guide instructional methods, and improve student outcomes.
• Aid in the academic, social, and emotional development of students in line with the attributes of the IB learner profile.
• Thoroughly prepare students for their external examinations at IGCSE and A Level.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance the curriculum, share effective practices, and improve the overall teaching and learning experience.

Requirements:

Essential

• Bachelor’s Degree in English or a related field.
• A PGCE / PGDE or an equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching English at the Secondary School level.
• At least 2 years in a Head of Department position.
• Proven experience teaching IGCSE and/or A Level English is required.
• Strong skills in classroom management and behavioral oversight.
• Proven ability to support and enhance student performance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent or native-level proficiency in English.

Desirable

• Experience with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).
• Experience in international school settings.
