About This Role

Brighton College Vietnam is looking to appoint an exceptional EAL Teacher starting in August 2026 to enhance the educational experience of our students on the EAL (English as an Additional Language) Register. Ideal candidates will have a background in supporting learners who need assistance in improving their English language skills, helping them engage socially and achieve their academic potential.

This position will mainly be based in the Senior School, with potential responsibilities in the Prep School as well.

Collaborating closely with the Head of EAL, the EAL Teacher will concentrate on various areas as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching, Learning & Curriculum:

• Provide targeted support to students identified as needing help with their English language skills.

• Assist pupils in mainstream classroom settings.

• Conduct small group or one-on-one interventions outside of mainstream classes.

• Plan and/or co-plan lessons that prioritize blended EAL support, learner skills, and curriculum delivery.

• Create EAL resources for shared use among students, classroom teachers, the department, or families.

• Collaborate with teachers to improve EAL services.

• Assess and monitor the progress of students on the EAL Register using a variety of formative and summative assessments.

• Continuously monitor all pupils and assist in identifying those who may need EAL support.

• Work together with classroom teachers and communicate pupil progress to the EAL team promptly.

• Involve students, parents, and colleagues regularly in the EAL learning journey as appropriate.

• Support EAL students outside the classroom through CCAs, independent learning tasks, or by facilitating activities and competitions.

• Collaborate closely with the Head of EAL and other stakeholders to ensure that pupils’ needs are well understood and addressed.

The EAL Team

• Participate in and contribute to internal College meetings as necessary.

• Attend and engage in EAL departmental meetings.

• Take part in training sessions.

• Assist the Head of EAL in developing and implementing EAL INSET and ongoing professional development for staff, leading training sessions when possible.

• Help with the creation and updates of departmental documentation, including assessment data, pupil logs, or policies as needed.

• Support the team in ensuring timely and efficient handling of referrals from staff for effective assessment and intervention.

• Make sure that the learning environment and display areas within the EAL department are well-maintained.

• Exemplify the values of Brighton College Vietnam on a daily basis.

• Be adaptable and open to change.

Requirements

The successful candidate is expected to possess the following skills, knowledge, and experience.

General Requirements:

• A Bachelor's Degree and a certified teaching qualification (such as a PGCE) or a Bachelor's Degree in Education.

• A TEFL/EAL relevant teaching qualification is preferred in addition to the aforementioned qualifications.

• Experience teaching EAL.

• Previous experience in a British curriculum school catering to ages 5-18 is desirable.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Strong organizational skills and timely follow-through.

• Ability to adapt approaches according to the evolving needs of students.

Knowledge & Experience:

• Extensive experience working with young learners and EAL.

• A willingness to engage and participate in the co-curricular program.

• A readiness to support the College House system.

• Supervising students during breaks/lunch and other informal periods.

• Ensuring the safety and security of students at all times.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
