Responsible for: Islamic Studies Teacher Role

Main purpose

The teacher will:

Fulfill the professional duties of a teacher and consistently adhere to the expectations outlined in the UK and UAE Teachers’ Standards.

Qualifications and Experience

• A required Bachelor’s degree and a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, B.Ed.).

• At least 2 years of successful experience teaching Islamic Studies within the British Curriculum (desirable).

• Experience in teaching within the UAE (desirable).

Skills and Knowledge

• Familiarity with the British National Curriculum.

• Understanding of adaptive teaching and learning strategies.

• A solid grasp of how children learn.

• Capability to modify teaching approaches to cater to students’ needs.

• Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with students.

• Knowledge of policies and requirements regarding child safeguarding.

• Proficiency in effective behavior management strategies.

• Strong ICT skills, particularly in utilizing technology to enhance learning.

• Safe and ethical use of AI to support educational objectives.

• Awareness of UAE policies and inspection frameworks (desirable).

Duties and responsibilities

Teaching

• Plan and deliver engaging and pertinent lessons encompassing various Islamic topics and concepts.

• Establish a positive and respectful learning environment that nurtures students' Islamic identity and values.

• Develop assessments and gauge students’ comprehension of Islamic teachings and practices.

• Offer support and guidance to students in their personal Islamic growth.

• Encourage students to practice Islamic values and rituals, including prayer, fasting, and charity.

• Cultivate a culture of respect, tolerance, and acceptance of diverse Islamic traditions and practices.

• Integrate Islamic values and morals into daily classroom routines and interactions.

• Employ a variety of teaching methods and resources, including technology and multimedia, to enhance students’ learning experiences.

• Stay informed about current Islamic teachings and trends, integrating them into the curriculum when suitable.

• Collaborate with other teachers to intertwine Islamic Studies with other subject areas.

• Monitor and assess students' progress, providing constructive feedback to students and parents.

• Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.

• Attend meetings, workshops, and professional development sessions related to Islamic education.

• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and the broader school community.

• Adhere to school policies and procedures concerning academic integrity, student conduct, and safety.

Whole-school organisation, strategy and development

• Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices, and procedures to support the school’s vision and values.

• Make a positive contribution to the overall life and ethos of the school.

• Collaborate with others on curriculum and student development to achieve coordinated outcomes.

• Provide cover in the event that another teacher is unable to teach.

• Lead assigned extracurricular activities before, during, and after school hours.

Health, safety and discipline

• Promote the safety and well-being of students.

• Maintain order and discipline among students, effectively managing behavior to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

• Adhere to the school’s centralized behavior policy.

Professional development

• Participate in the school’s appraisal processes.

• Engage in further training and development to enhance personal teaching skills.

• Involve in the appraisal and professional development of others, as appropriate.

• Contribute to the school’s professional development program when suitable.

• Engage with broader SIG development opportunities.

• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and caregivers.

• Maintain effective communication with colleagues, line managers, and the leadership team.

• Effectively communicate with external visitors, inspectors, and government officials.

• Collaborate with colleagues and other relevant professionals both within and beyond the school.

• Fully comply with UAE laws and customs at all times.

Management of staff and resources

• Direct and supervise support staff assigned to them, and where appropriate, other teachers.

• Contribute to the recruitment and professional development of fellow teachers and support staff.

• Allocate resources assigned to them.

• Ensure resources are utilized equitably and effectively.

Safeguarding


• Adhere to statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education) and our safeguarding and child protection policies.

• Collaborate with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to promote the well-being of students, including sharing concerns when necessary.

• Advocate for the safeguarding of all students within the school at all times.

Other areas of responsibility

• Ensure full compliance with all regulations, policies, and frameworks mandated by the KHDA, BSO, and the UAE Ministry of Education.

• Assist the leadership team in preparing for and executing the KHDA inspection process, developing and following post-inspection action plans.

• Support the success of the UAE National Agenda.

• Maintain positive and professional communication with all KHDA and Government Officials and represent the school at required forums and meetings at the Principal's request.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
