RAK Academy Al Hamra:

Situated in the southern part of Ras Al Khaimah within the Al Hamra community, RAK Academy – Al Hamra is an expanding primary and lower secondary school that delivers an adapted UK National Curriculum from Pre-K to Grade 8, in addition to the UAE MOE subjects. Our new secondary school for Grades 6 to 8 is set to open in August 2026. We are accredited by the British Schools Overseas (BSO), which allows us to fully implement the ECT induction for teachers, in accordance with standards set by leading international British schools.

The Role (Founding Position):

RAK Academy – Al Hamra is on the lookout for a proactive, motivated, and inspiring Secondary Head of Science to spearhead the creation of our new secondary Science department. This pioneering position presents a unique opportunity to influence curriculum design, departmental culture, STEM pathways, and teaching standards in a school that will welcome its first students in August 2026.

As a founding middle leader, the Secondary Head of Science will:


Direct the design and execution of the Science curriculum for Grades 6–8


Establish assessment protocols, departmental policies, and expectations for high-quality teaching


Foster a robust culture of scientific inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking throughout the school


Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of Science teachers


Collaborate closely with the Head of School, Deputy Head, and primary science leads to ensure a seamless progression and continuity


Oversee curriculum planning, laboratory safety, resource management, and the professional development needs


Teach across various key stages as the school expands

Essential


• Bachelor’s degree in science or a related field.

• Post Graduate Certificate in Education (or equivalent)

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Possess a strong understanding of teaching and learning principles

• Demonstrate high proficiency in using technology to enhance teaching and learning

• Engage, inspire, and support students effectively

• Be a reflective educator capable of creative thinking and innovation

• Exhibit a positive and enthusiastic demeanor with a growth mindset

• Be open to active participation in extracurricular activities

• Possess excellent communication skills

• Experience teaching GCSE/IGCSE/A-Level courses (Early Career Teachers are encouraged to apply)
