About This Role
Avenor College is in search of a skilled, effective, and seasoned Career and Student Programmes Counselor to become part of our youthful and vibrant team, which was honored with the Career Mark in 2023.
At Avenor, we pride ourselves on achieving exceptional examination results, but we recognize that education encompasses much more. Therefore, we have cultivated a strong reputation for our innovative approaches. Among our initiatives is the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC) program, designed to help our students fulfill the Avenor Learner profile. This career guidance program and the associated internships form an integral part of LOTC.
LOTC equips students with the skills they need to be prepared for the future through a variety of authentic, transdisciplinary learning experiences that enhance conceptual understanding, competency, and character.
We are eager to appoint an experienced counselor to join our LOTC team and assist with the execution of the LOTC development plan.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Implementing the LOTC program along with other student initiatives, such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, Internships Program, and Scholarship Program.
- Supporting the Examination Officer to ensure that examinations are conducted smoothly and in accordance with the requirements set by examination boards.
- Offering guidance and advice to students regarding potential career paths based on their skills, qualifications, and interests.
- Creating and facilitating workshops and presentations on topics such as CV writing, interview techniques, job search strategies, and other career-related subjects.
- Assisting students in understanding the various admission requirements and application processes for different institutions.
- Providing information on scholarships, grants, and other financial aid programs that students may qualify for.
- Reviewing and evaluating student application materials, including transcripts, test scores, and personal statements.
- Aiding in the preparation and submission of college applications, ensuring that all necessary documentation is included and submitted on time.
- Keeping accurate records of student applications and following up with colleges and universities to confirm receipt of all materials.
- Organizing and hosting college fairs and other events to give students an opportunity to connect with representatives from various institutions.
- Building and maintaining relationships with college and university admissions offices to stay informed about the latest admission policies and procedures.
Qualifications and experience required:
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as education, counseling, or social work.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to establish rapport with students, parents, and college representatives.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with a capacity to handle multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Familiarity with college admission requirements and application procedures.
- Experience in academic advising, counseling, or a related field.
