About This Role

GEMS Cambridge International School in Abu Dhabi is looking for a passionate and committed Science Teacher (KS3 & KS4) with expertise in Physics or Chemistry to join our educational team starting in August 2026. The ideal candidate will motivate and engage students in Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering exceptional lessons that spark curiosity, enhance scientific comprehension, and cultivate a passion for learning. This role presents an exciting chance to significantly influence student achievement within a nurturing and collaborative educational setting.

Overall Function and Purpose:

To instruct and educate students in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework, guided by the relevant educational authority. You will teach and assess your assigned students based on their individual educational needs, delivering the appropriate curriculum to ensure academic success for every student. Additionally, you will contribute to the broader school community.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the mandated curriculum, demonstrating comprehensive and current knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Maintain a safe, tidy, and supportive environment that promotes optimal student outcomes.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons tailored to the diverse abilities of all students in the classroom.
  • Teach according to the individual educational needs, capabilities, and achievements of each student and groups of students.
  • Work towards the implementation of the school’s development plan.
  • Assign, correct, and assess student work in line with the school’s marking policy.
  • Set and uphold high expectations for every student, assisting them in reaching their full potential and reflecting these standards in their workbooks.
  • Assess, record, and provide feedback on the development, progress, attainment, and behavior of your students.
  • Analyze data to inform and adjust classroom practices to ensure all learners achieve their maximum potential.
  • Contribute to oral and written assessments, reports, and references for individual students or groups of students.
  • Engage in the national framework for the evaluation of student performance.
  • Promote the overall progress and well-being of individual students, groups of students, or classes under your care.
  • Offer guidance and support to students on educational and social issues, as well as their future educational goals.
  • Communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with other school staff, including those with special responsibilities, as well as parents and guardians.
  • Reflect on and evaluate your teaching strategies, methodologies, and programs in line with National Curriculum Framework guidelines to enhance classroom learning.
  • Collaborate with the Head of School, Deputy Heads, Assistant Head Teachers, Heads of Years, Education Officers, and fellow teachers in designing curriculum, teaching materials, teaching programs, assessment methods, and pastoral care arrangements.
  • Ensure high standards of professional practice and quality in your teaching of the subject(s). Engage in effective dialogue, participate in peer observation, and receive feedback from the Head of Year.
  • Take part in continuing professional development (CPD) initiatives and engage in action research.
  • Maintain good order and discipline among students in your care, ensuring their health and safety at all times.
  • Report any concerns regarding student safety, whether emotional or physical, to the school’s safeguarding officer.
  • Participate in staff meetings or group discussions related to the school curriculum or pastoral care for effective school administration.
  • Contribute to the professional development of new teachers and student teachers as per the arrangements made with the Head of School.
  • Provide necessary information and advice to designated personnel within the school and manage requisitions related to your assigned subjects.
  • Ensure the proper use and care of equipment typically used during lessons, and oversee its regular maintenance.
