Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in, Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

Candidates do not need to fulfill every qualification; relevant experience and a passion for community-centered education are greatly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both written and spoken)
  • Experience in supporting education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL settings
  • Experience teaching in cross-cultural or northern Canadian environments

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy strategies
  • Training or experience utilizing modern assessment techniques to enhance learning
  • Experience in fostering a positive learning environment through effective classroom management approaches (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders
  • Background in promoting student well-being and engagement
  • Ability to connect with students outside the classroom when appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaboratively planning educational instruction and student support
  • Proven capability in working effectively with diverse groups
