About This Role
Poplar Hill First Nation, a dynamic community of 700 residents situated just 20 air minutes from Red Lake, Ontario, is in search of a compassionate and committed teacher for our school, which caters to 176 students. We are seeking an individual who can ignite a love for education and recreation among our eager learners, who primarily communicate in Oji-Cree while enhancing their English language skills. The ideal applicant will possess patience and understanding, and be capable of guiding our students as they advance their language proficiency.
This role is ideally suited for someone with a genuine passion for engaging with young adults and who thrives on participating in activities alongside them. A high level of energy is crucial for success in this position. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree, a Bachelor of Education, and an Ontario Teaching Certificate. Given that this role is located in a remote area accessible by plane and, during the winter months, by a seasonal road for 6-8 weeks, it is essential to be ready for this distinctive living situation. Our community offers vital services, including a Nursing Health Unit, Northern Store, Band Office, Fire Hall, and Water Treatment Plant. You will receive furnished housing conveniently located within walking distance of the school.
Our newly built school features bright classrooms, each outfitted with Interactive Boards and computer access, allowing students to utilize laptops effectively. You will be part of a professional and supportive team of experienced staff members in a friendly school environment.
