Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in, Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their qualifications assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)
Desired Qualifications
Candidates are not required to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-centered education are valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
- Experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit-based education
- Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL settings
- Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational contexts
Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching methods
- Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
- Familiarity with contemporary assessment strategies to inform student learning
- Proven ability to create a positive learning environment through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)
Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community stakeholders
- Skills in supporting student well-being and engagement
- Involvement with students outside the classroom when appropriate
