Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated applicants without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

While candidates do not need to meet every qualification, relevant experience and a dedication to community-focused education are valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both oral and written).
  • Experience supporting education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.
  • Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL environments.
  • Experience in teaching within cross-cultural or northern Canadian settings.

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Experience with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development.
  • Familiarity with contemporary assessment methods to enhance student learning.
  • Proven ability to create a positive learning atmosphere through effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports).

  • Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders.

  • Experience in interacting with students outside the classroom, as appropriate.
