About This Role

ROLE SUMMARY:

King’s College School, Cascais seeks a committed and responsible Summer Camp Residential Monitor and Medical Assistant to promote student wellness, supervision, and medical protocols during our Summer Camp, scheduled from June 24 to July 25, 2026. The ideal candidate will report to the Summer Camp Boarding Coordinator, providing exceptional pastoral care for both boarding and day students, while ensuring their safety and compliance with camp procedures at all times.

In addition to overseeing residential duties, this role involves supporting the camp nurse during weekdays and implementing essential medical procedures in the nurse's absence during evenings, overnight, and weekends. The working hours will include supervising evening activities, late-night responsibilities, overnight tasks, and being on call for emergencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide outstanding pastoral care for both boarding and day students, addressing their physical, mental, and emotional well-being while maintaining discipline.

• Ensure adherence to all boarding and school protocols, including sign-in/out procedures, meal schedules, bedtime routines, medication administration, and nighttime practices.

• Make certain that students are never left unsupervised, including during offsite excursions.

• Work closely with the Camp Director and Deputies, promptly reporting any issues that may arise.

• Accompany students on offsite excursions, following safety guidelines outlined by camp leadership.

• Attend all staff meetings and actively participate in evening activities.

• Take responsibility for materials used during organized activities, ensuring areas are kept tidy and organized.

• Adapt to a flexible rota system, which includes evening activities, late shifts, and overnight duties.

• Be available on call and respond effectively to emergencies (such as incidents, fire, intruders, or other urgent situations).

• Assist with first aid and health-related issues for campers in collaboration with the Deputies, Camp Director, and Nurse.

• Support the camp nurse from Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:30.

• Follow established medical protocols when the nurse is unavailable during evenings, overnight, and weekends.

• Aid with arrival and departure days (Saturdays and Sundays), including welcoming families and coordinating airport transfers.

• Be prepared to assist as needed, recognizing that the role may involve covering responsibilities or addressing unforeseen circumstances at any time.

• Engage in training and planning sessions prior to the camp and complete required Educare safeguarding modules before starting.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• Proficient to advanced English skills (C1–C2 required), enabling effective communication with students throughout the camp.

• A strong capacity to deliver excellent pastoral care for students, ensuring their physical, mental, and emotional well-being while maintaining appropriate discipline.

• The capability to ensure that students are never left unattended, even during offsite excursions.

• Confidence in upholding boarding and school procedures (e.g., sign-in/out, meal times, bedtime routines, medication management, and nighttime protocols).

• Proficiency in addressing first aid and health concerns for campers alongside the Camp Director, Deputies, and Nurse.

• Ability to assist the camp nurse (Monday to Friday, 08:30–17:30) and follow medical procedures when the nurse is not present (evenings/overnight/weekends).

• Willingness and adaptability to work within a rota system, which includes evening activities, late shifts, overnight responsibilities, being on call, and managing unexpected situations as needed.

• Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with the Camp Director and Deputies, promptly communicating any concerns.

• A commitment to safeguarding, including completing mandatory Educare child safety training prior to the inset days and participating in training/planning sessions before camp.

• High standards of personal hygiene and appearance, along with a commitment to complying with the KCC Staff Handbook, uniform standards, and health & safety regulations.

Compensation
