Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO)

Essential

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Successful teaching experience
• Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and statutory requirements
• Experience of working with pupils with a range of SEND
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies
• Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills
• Mandatory SENCO Qualification
• Hold, or be willing to complete, the National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for SENCOs, in line with statutory requirements
• Transitional arrangements apply:
• SENCOs who began the NASENCO before 1 September 2024 must complete it by 1 September 2027
• SENCOs who already hold the NASENCO are not required to complete the NPQ for SENCOs

Desirable

• Experience of strategic SEND leadership
• Experience of writing and reviewing EHCP documentation
• Experience of working across more than one school or within a Trust context
• Knowledge of evidence-informed SEND practice
