Position: Secondary Teacher (SEN)

Location: New Barn School - River View House, Newbury, Berkshire RG14 2PS

Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience, not pro rata)

Hours: 40 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 8.30am – 4.30pm

Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

Start: May 2026

You will be instrumental in assisting students with additional needs, guiding their academic, social, and emotional growth within a secure, caring, and stimulating educational environment.

About the role

As an SEN Secondary Teacher, you will provide high-quality, individualized education to students with various additional needs within the secondary age group. In a supportive and structured setting, you will modify teaching methods and curriculum content to guarantee that all learners can engage with their education.

You will develop impactful learning experiences that enhance both academic knowledge and essential life skills, aiding students in building confidence, resilience, and independence. By collaborating closely with colleagues, families, and specialized professionals, you will ensure each student receives the personalized support necessary for their progression and readiness for future educational or career pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that accommodate students with diverse special educational needs across the secondary curriculum.
  • Modify teaching methods, resources, and assessment techniques to ensure learning is accessible and relevant for each student.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) with specific targets to facilitate academic and personal growth.
  • Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development, fostering positive relationships and resilience.
  • Monitor, assess, and track student progress, utilizing outcomes to inform teaching approaches and intervention strategies.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants, colleagues, families, and external professionals to provide comprehensive and consistent support.
  • Prepare students for future pathways by facilitating the development of independence, life skills, and self-confidence.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with school policies, safeguarding requirements, and regulatory standards.

About You

We are seeking an individual who is:

  • Qualified: Holds UK QTS (or an equivalent qualification) along with a relevant degree. Applications from experienced non-qualified teachers will also be considered.
  • Experienced: Confident in supporting students with SEN, including ASC, learning difficulties, and complex needs.
  • Compassionate & Resilient: Capable of building trust and supporting students who may have encountered significant challenges.
  • Collaborative: A strong communicator who values teamwork and knowledge-sharing with colleagues.
  • Creative & Flexible: Willing to adjust lessons and strategies to cater to individual student needs.
  • Mobile: A full UK driving license is required.
