Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

• Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
• A valid teaching certificate recognized by or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their qualifications evaluated through Pathways To Teach Canada).

Desired Qualifications

Candidates do not need to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community-focused education are highly regarded.

Language and Cultural Assets

• Proficiency in Inuktitut (both oral and written).
• Experience in delivering education based on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.
• Background in teaching in bilingual or ESL settings.
• Experience in cross-cultural or northern Canadian educational environments.

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

• Familiarity with differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices.
• Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development.
• Knowledge of current assessment strategies to guide learning.
• Demonstrated ability to foster a positive classroom environment using effective management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports).

Relationships & Student Engagement

• Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders.
• Skills in promoting student wellbeing and active participation.
• Engagement with students beyond the classroom, as appropriate.

• Experience in collaboratively designing instruction and supporting students.
• Proven ability to function as an integral part of a school team.
