Required Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
  • A valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligibility for certification in Nunavut (Internationally educated teachers without a Canadian teaching certificate must have their credentials assessed through Pathways To Teach Canada)

Desired Qualifications

While candidates need not meet every qualification, relevant experience and dedication to community-focused education are highly valued.

Language and Cultural Assets

  • Proficiency in Inuktitut (both spoken and written)
  • Experience in education informed by Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
  • Background in bilingual or ESL teaching settings
  • Teaching experience in cross-cultural or northern Canada environments

Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment

  • Experience implementing differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Training or experience in evidence-based literacy development
  • Familiarity with contemporary assessment methods to guide learning
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a positive learning environment using effective classroom management techniques (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports)

Relationships & Student Engagement

  • Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members
  • Ability to promote student well-being and encourage active participation
  • Engagement with students beyond the classroom, as appropriate

Collaboration & Professional Practice

  • Experience in collaborative planning for instruction and student support
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a school team
