About This Role

Pioneer the Future of Ocean Conservation: Teacher of Marine Science

British West Indies Collegiate (BWIC) invites applications from an energetic, dedicated, and innovative educator to spearhead our growing Marine Science Department. Nestled in the stunning Turks and Caicos Islands, amidst some of the globe's finest coral reefs and marine ecosystems, this teaching opportunity is truly one of a kind in the realm of international education.

At BWIC, we emphasize the development of the "whole student," and are in search of a scientist capable of transforming our vibrant turquoise waters into an interactive learning environment, motivating students from Year 9 through to the highest academic tiers.

The Role

• Curriculum Leadership: Provide exceptional Marine Science instruction beginning at Year 9, establishing a strong foundation in ocean literacy that progresses into the Cambridge (CAIE) IGCSE and A-Level curricula.

• Pioneer the A-Level Pathway: Oversee a newly introduced subject as we prepare to guide our inaugural cohort of A-Level students through their pivotal Year 13 assessments in 2027.

• Dynamic Instruction: Leverage our well-equipped department and the extraordinary local surroundings to connect theoretical knowledge with practical field research.

• Academic Mentorship: Support senior students in pursuing careers in marine biology, environmental science, and conservation, utilizing our unique geographic context.

• Community Engagement: Contribute to the familial atmosphere at BWIC, actively participating in school-wide initiatives and promoting respect for the TCI marine ecosystem.

The Ideal Candidate

• Qualified Scientist: Must possess a recognized teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) along with a solid Honors degree in Marine Biology, Oceanography, or a related Biological Science.

• Dynamic Educator: An individual who flourishes in a fast-paced, evolving environment and is enthusiastic about developing a flagship subject from the ground up.

• Versatile Practitioner: While the primary focus is Marine Science, the ability to teach additional science subjects (such as Biology or Environmental Management) is advantageous, though not mandatory.

• A-Level Specialist: Demonstrated experience (or a strong eagerness) to instruct Marine Science at A-Level, with the intellectual capacity to guide our inaugural graduating class towards success.

• CAIE Experience: Familiarity with the Cambridge International framework is preferred, but above all, we value enthusiasm, field experience, and adaptability in a professional setting.

Why Join BWIC?

• A Living Laboratory: Teach in a setting where "fieldwork" is only minutes away from the classroom. Our proximity to the reef and the coastal areas of the National Stadium offers unmatched educational experiences.

• Newly Resourced Department: Take advantage of a department that has recently been enhanced with equipment and resources to support our increasing number of Marine Science students.

• Small Seminar Groups: Experience small class sizes—especially at A-Level—that facilitate in-depth scientific discussions and tailored laboratory support.

• A Lifestyle Unmatched: Reside and work in "Provo," where your professional enthusiasm for the ocean is complemented by a remarkable island lifestyle and a supportive international faculty.
