Mwanza International School
Recruiting Institution
View Full School Profile & VacanciesMwanza International School commenced operations in September 2012 as an expanding primary institution catering to children up to eleven years of age, encompassing all year groups of the British primary educational framework.
With a solid foundation in our primary program, we introduced secondary classes starting with Year 7 in August 2021. Each subsequent year, an additional class was added, culminating in Year 11's inception in 2025. The inaugural IGCSE examinations are scheduled for June 2026.
As a non-profit organization, Mwanza International School reinvests any budget surpluses back into enhancing school facilities.
We pride ourselves on our diverse teaching staff, which comprises qualified and experienced educators from around the globe, all specializing in the British curriculum. We specifically seek teachers who demonstrate a strong commitment to their roles.
Mwanza International School holds registration with the Tanzanian Ministry of Education (EM.17629) and is affiliated with T.I.S.A. (The Tanzanian International Schools Association). In 2015, we became a member of E.C.I.S. (The European Council of International Schools) and joined Cambridge International Schools in 2019 (TZ060).
Situated at Capri Point in Mwanza's central area, our campus is nestled within a residential neighborhood adorned with numerous trees for shade. The facilities include two sports fields measuring 40m and 50m, a 20m swimming pool, three basketball/netball courts, and playgrounds equipped with ample play structures. The school features 15 classrooms and two libraries.
The school is organized into four distinct sections:
Foundation Stage (Pre-School)
Key Stage One (Reception, Year 1, and Year 2)
Key Stage Two (Year 3 – Year 6)
Key Stage Three (Year 7 - Year 9)
Key Stage Four (Years 10 & 11)
Curriculum
We implement the Cambridge curriculum, tailored to suit the needs of both expatriate and Tanzanian students in Mwanza. This curriculum provides clear objectives for English, Mathematics, and Science, alongside external examinations to evaluate student progress.
The curriculum focuses on skill development, emphasizing the application of English, Mathematical, Scientific, and IT competencies. Many lessons are cross-curricular, particularly in the younger grades. Primary classrooms are designed similarly to UK primary schools, featuring carpet areas, sinks, and digital projectors, while secondary classrooms are equipped with digital projectors and whiteboards.
Our goal is to nurture “the whole child,” offering numerous extracurricular activities outside the classroom, particularly for older students, including educational trips to sites like The Serengeti National Park.
Secondary Department at Mwanza International School
We are pleased to announce the expansion of our Secondary Department at Mwanza International School. Year Seven began in August 2021, followed by Year 9 in 2023, and our IGCSE cohort commenced in August 2024.
The secondary program adheres to the Cambridge curriculum. Students undertake their Key Stage 3 Checkpoint assessments in Year 9 and proceed to take the IGCSEs (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) in Year 11.
Our campus consists of two plots located mere meters apart: one plot accommodates our Early Years and Lower Primary Department, while the other includes the swimming pool, Upper Primary, and Secondary Department.
Tablets
Every Secondary student receives a tablet that includes eBooks, subject-specific programs, and internet access. While students will still use traditional textbooks and library resources, the tablets offer the flexibility to explore a range of subjects. They are integral to the students' educational experience and will accompany them throughout KS3/4.
