About This Role

Opportunity

The Canadian School of Florence is seeking a PE and Biology teacher who will oversee the planning, execution, and assessment of the Ontario PE and Biology curriculum for students in Middle and High School. The ideal candidate will create programs that are engaging, relevant, and designed to inspire a lifelong passion for physical activity.

Teaching & Learning

- Plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality instruction in:
- Healthy Active Living (PE+Health) for Grades 9–11
- Biology for Grades 11–12
- Kinesiology for Grade 12 University Preparation

- Develop engaging, inquiry-based lessons that align with the Ontario curriculum standards.

- Effectively teach combined grade-level courses when necessary.

- Differentiate instruction to accommodate the diverse needs of learners, including those for whom English is an additional language.

- Incorporate literacy strategies to enhance reading, writing, scientific vocabulary acquisition, and academic language development.

- Employ a variety of assessment and evaluation methods in accordance with Ontario Ministry guidelines.

- Create safe, inclusive, and respectful environments in both classroom and sports facilities.

Coaching & Athletics

- Coach and nurture school teams in:
- Football
- Basketball
- Volleyball

- Organize and lead practices, training sessions, and competitions.

- Foster sportsmanship, teamwork, and promote student well-being.

- Contribute to building a positive and inclusive athletic culture within an international school setting.

Student Support & Collaboration

- Aid students in their academic, social, and emotional growth.

- Work collaboratively with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and school improvement initiatives.

- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians within an international context.

- Engage in co-curricular and community activities.

Your Profile

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

- Bachelor of Education degree (Ontario or equivalent);

- Ontario Teachers’ Certificate or international teaching qualification, in good standing;

- Qualified to teach elementary and middle school students;

- Native English Speaker.

EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

- At least three (3) years of experience teaching PE;

- Exhibits creativity, a passion for teaching, and a strong work ethic;

- Familiarity with innovative teaching and learning methods;

- Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, negotiation, and mediation skills;

- Good organizational and time management abilities;

- Commitment to the school’s mission and vision, along with its academic and co-curricular goals;

- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and capable of creating unique learning experiences for students;

- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, flexible, and supportive team environment;

- Dedication to safeguarding and equality;

- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality;

- High standard of teaching, communication, and presentation skills;

- Experience in independent schools, along with coaching or extracurricular involvement, is advantageous.

Compensation

£30,000 - £45,000+ (Regional Equivalent)
