About This Role

Location: Tipton
Salary: MPS/UPS

At Q3 Academy Tipton, we want every young person to know more, do more and achieve more.

We aim to support and develop young people who:

  • are enthusiastic learners and achieve incredible things;
  • live life to the full in pursuit of what is good, right and true;
  • lead happy, confident and safe lives; and
  • are unstoppable in the world of work and within their families and communities.

Our students are encouraged to live our values of Kindness, Ambition, Resilience and Respect. As a school community, we challenge, check and cheer the achievements and standards of our students and staff. We believe that every student, member of staff, family and member of our community matters, and that we care about one another unreservedly.

Could you help us ensure that no student is left behind?

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, skilled and compassionate Teacher of SEND and Primary Skills.

This is an exciting and distinctive opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about helping young people with SEND develop the foundational skills they need to thrive at secondary school and beyond.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, carefully sequenced teaching in phonics, early literacy and numeracy, building on learning from Key Stages 1 and 2. You will help students strengthen essential skills including decoding, reading fluency, comprehension, writing, number sense and calculation, using assessment to understand individual starting points and plan the right next steps.

Are you a primary teacher looking for something different?

We would be particularly interested in hearing from primary-trained teachers who would like to bring their expertise into a secondary setting.

Your understanding of how children develop early reading, writing and mathematical skills could make a transformational difference to students who have not yet secured these foundations.

Equally, we welcome applications from secondary and SEND practitioners who have strong knowledge of literacy, numeracy and inclusive teaching.

What matters most is that you combine expert teaching with high expectations, recognising students' individual needs without placing limits on what they can achieve.

About the role

You will:

  • deliver systematic and explicit teaching of phonics, early literacy and numeracy;
  • assess students' starting points and use this information to plan carefully sequenced teaching and targeted intervention;
  • adapt teaching and resources to meet students' SEND, communication, language and literacy needs;
  • provide accessible and appropriately scaffolded learning while ensuring that experiences remain age-respectful and ambitious;
  • work closely with the SENCO, teaching assistants, pastoral colleagues and relevant specialists;
  • contribute to individual targets and Education, Health and Care Plan outcomes where appropriate;
  • use teaching assistants and other resources effectively while promoting students' independence; and
  • help students apply their developing literacy and numeracy skills across the wider curriculum.
About you

We are looking for a teacher with Qualified Teacher Status and a good honours degree who communicates effectively and can adapt teaching successfully to meet the needs of students with SEND.

You will have a strong understanding of KS1 and KS2 curriculum progression in phonics, early literacy and numeracy, alongside the ability to assess starting points and use this information to plan sequenced teaching and appropriate next steps.

Most importantly, you will share our determination to overcome barriers to learning, maintain high expectations and ensure that no student is left behind.

Why join us?

This is a role where your teaching can make a significant and visible difference.

You will have the opportunity to help students secure the fundamental skills that enable them to access the wider curriculum with greater confidence, become increasingly independent and experience success.
