School Social Worker

Position: School Social Worker

Under the supervision of the Principal, the School Social Worker will work in partnership with the Student Services and Wellness support team, school personnel, parents/guardians, clinicians, and external organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Social Work Degree
- A valid Manitoba Social Work School Clinician Certificate (or eligibility for it)
- Outstanding crisis response and management skills, including conducting thorough risk assessments, developing safety plans, and offering follow-up care for students with suicidal thoughts and other self-harming behaviors
- Proven experience in designing and implementing universal and targeted social-emotional programs for diverse age groups
- Strong interpersonal and case management abilities, along with effective consultation skills
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational capabilities, and proficiency with technology; adept at handling multiple deadlines
- A solid grasp of Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being, and Doing
- Knowledge of provincial resources such as the Manitoba Sourcebook for School Guidance and Counselling Services, Mamàhtawisiwin: The Wonder We are Born With, and the Framework for Learning
- Preferred training in Threat Assessment (VTRA), ASIST, Trauma-Informed Practices, and Cultural Safety
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The selected candidate will provide a broad range of school-based social work services, which encompass but are not limited to:
- Delivering counseling and group support for students dealing with social/emotional issues
- Assisting in the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives that encourage mental wellness
- Offering guidance and consultation to school staff concerning the social/emotional needs of students
- Responding to emerging educational trends that focus on prevention, early intervention, school readiness, parent education, and service integration for children from birth to secondary education
- Collaborating with community programs to initiate community development projects
- Partnering with school support teams and parents/guardians to identify and meet student needs
- Compiling and submitting written reports according to Division timelines
- Referring cases to external agencies in consultation with school staff and/or the Student Services Team
- Working with the Student Services Team to provide professional development opportunities for school staff and parents
- Maintaining confidentiality in accordance with professional standards
- Adhering to Frontier School Division policies and procedures
