About This Role

Yorkswood Primary SchoolAbout this Role

Yorkswood Primary School is on an ambitious journey of rapid transformation. Our community deserves an outstanding school, and we are determined to deliver it. Situated in an area of high social deprivation, school is an essential community hub, a safe haven, and a vital service for our children and their families.

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional, dedicated, and versatile Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) / Teaching Assistant (Advanced) to join our growing team. We are intentionally building a staff culture rooted in high expectations, professional pride, empathy, and mutual support.

As an advanced practitioner, you will work in close partnership with teachers and school leaders to deliver high-impact learning, lead quality whole-class cover, provide targeted small-group interventions, and mentor fellow support staff across the school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Whole-Class Cover & Delivery: Plan, deliver, and assess structured lessons across key stages during planned teacher absence, subject leadership release, and PPA time.

  • Targeted Academic Interventions: Plan, deliver, and evaluate structured interventions designed to accelerate progress and close gaps for vulnerable groups, including children with SEND, Pupil Premium, and EAL.

  • Assessment & Progress Monitoring: Use formative assessment to adapt provision, maintain clear records of pupil achievement, and provide feedback to class teachers, SENCo, and parents during consultations.

  • Positive Learning Environment & Culture: Promote our shared values, uphold positive behaviour strategies, foster pupil independence, and ensure a calm, purposeful, and stimulating learning environment.

What We Offer You
  • A Collaborative Support Network: A warm, values-driven team where your contributions are genuinely valued, supported by close mentorship from senior leaders and MAT specialists.

  • High-Quality Professional Development: Substantial investment in your career through our instructional coaching model, deliberate practice, and evidence-informed training (including fully funded support to obtain HLTA status if not yet held).

  • True Purpose & Impact: The opportunity to make a tangible, life-changing difference in a community where your work matters every single day.

  • Wellbeing Focus: Access to comprehensive Trust wellbeing initiatives, a network of mental health first aiders, and one fully paid Staff Wellbeing Day per year.

  • Living Wage Employer: Robin Hood MAT is a proud Living Wage employer.

Who We Are Looking For
  • Qualified or Aspiring HLTA: Holds HLTA status, a relevant Level 3/4 qualification, or is an experienced TA with whole-class experience who is ready and willing to work towards HLTA accreditation.

  • Confident Whole-Class Practitioner: Demonstrates the classroom management skills, curriculum understanding, and presence required to lead whole classes independently and purposefully.

  • Evidence-Informed & Reflective: Eager to engage with educational research, instructional coaching, and adaptive teaching strategies that maximise pupil engagement and learning.

  • A Resilient, Relational Team Player: Brings a calm, proactive attitude, strong personal integrity, and a deep commitment to championing every child.

  • Strong Communication Skills: Demonstrates excellent spoken and written English, in compliance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016.
