Matron
About This Role
Matron
Permanent; Full-time; Term time plus 1 week (34 weeks)
Closing date: 20 April 2026 at 12 noon
Haileybury is looking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Matron to join our team.
Role
The Matron position at Haileybury holds considerable significance. Working closely with the Housemaster or Housemistress, Deputy Housemaster, Resident Tutor, and tutors, the Matron plays a crucial role in the effective operation of the boarding house and in fostering a safe and nurturing environment for the students under their care. Matrons contribute to cultivating a positive atmosphere throughout the house, which supports wellbeing, good order, and academic achievement.
A high degree of skill and knowledge is essential for managing child protection and safeguarding issues, handling sensitive personal and medical information, and navigating challenging situations. We provide appropriate training to ensure Matrons are informed about best practices and have opportunities for ongoing professional growth.
While prior experience is not mandatory, candidates must demonstrate a strong capacity for providing pastoral care, alongside empathy and understanding of young people's needs. Excellent listening and IT skills, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively within a team, are also crucial. A full UK driving license is required.
Given the nature of a 24/7 boarding school, flexibility is essential. In addition to regular working hours, Matrons will need to work reasonable additional hours as required, which may include Pupil Induction Days, Open Mornings, Welcome Day, Speech Day, and potentially weekends, evenings, and bank holidays (Public holidays occurring while the School is in session will be considered working days).
For more information, please refer to the candidate brief.
