About you:

We are seeking a qualified, proactive, and experienced Technician - Design & Technology (Resistant Materials & Graphics) & ICT to join our team in August 2026. This critical role within the Design & Technology department is vital for supporting high-quality teaching and learning.

Job Purpose:

• Provide technical and practical assistance to teaching staff and students in the Design & Technology department.

• Maintain a secure, organized, and fully operational workshop environment.

• Assist in curriculum delivery by preparing and maintaining resources and providing in-class support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Adhere to organizational policies and procedures regarding administration, operations, health & safety, and inventory management.

• Maintain accurate records of tools, equipment, and materials, including stock management and ordering as needed.

• Ensure all workshops, tools, machinery, and materials are safe, well-maintained, and ready for use.

• Prepare and set up tools, equipment, and materials ahead of lessons to facilitate effective teaching and learning.

• Support teachers during practical sessions by aiding students with design and construction tasks.

• Create and modify teaching aids, prototypes, jigs, and fixtures as necessary.

• Set up and assist with hardware, machinery, and ICT equipment for demonstrations and student use.

• Conduct routine maintenance, servicing, and minor repairs of workshop machinery and hand tools (wood, metal, plastic processing equipment).

• Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including risk assessments and safe material storage.

• Assist in organizing and storing student work, materials, and resources, including constructing or modifying storage solutions as needed.

• Prepare materials, components, and resource packs for lessons and projects.

• Contribute to creating displays and maintaining an inspiring learning environment.

• Support departmental projects, exhibitions, and school-wide initiatives as required.

• Undertake any other duties reasonably assigned by the school.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

• Relevant qualification or certification in Design & Technology, Engineering, Workshop Practice, or a related field.

• Proven experience working with workshop machinery and tools (woodworking, metalworking, plastics).

• Strong understanding of health and safety practices within a workshop environment (COSHH, risk assessments, safe machine operation).

• Practical, hands-on skills with the ability to manufacture and repair items.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both staff and students.

• Proficient in ICT, including MS Office, and a willingness to learn new systems (e.g., CAD/CAM software, laser cutters, CNC machines).

• High attention to detail, particularly regarding safety and preparation.

• Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Desirable:

• Experience in a school or educational setting.

• Familiarity with CAD/CAM technologies, 3D printing, laser cutting, or CNC equipment.

• First Aid certification.

• Experience supporting students in hands-on learning environments.
