Founded over 1,400 years ago in the 6th century, The King’s School, Canterbury is recognized as one of the oldest schools still in operation in both England and Europe. Initially connected to Canterbury Cathedral, the institution continues to occupy premises within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was re-established by King Henry VIII in 1541, receiving the official title of 'The King’s School'. In 1946, the school was granted a new Royal Charter by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. In 1952, the well-known ‘King’s Week’ festival commenced, celebrating music and drama at the end of the summer term, and has become a treasured annual event. To adapt to contemporary educational needs, the school inaugurated its International College in 2018 and opened the initial phase of its Shenzhen campus in 2019. The King’s School Canterbury is esteemed for its exceptional reputation and remarkable academic achievements, consistently earning an ‘outstanding’ rating in independent inspections. Almost 99% of its graduates each year secure spots at prestigious universities around the globe. The school emphasizes quality over quantity within its overseas branch schools, nurturing strong ties between Canterbury and its international locations, as well as among the overseas institutions themselves. The Shenzhen campus marks the school’s inaugural overseas initiative, maintaining a unique connection through shared staff, training, resources, policies, summer programs, inspections, and prospects for future exchanges. Set against the scenic backdrop of Da NanShan (Nanshan Mountain), our Pre-Prep campus features vast outdoor areas and well-appointed classrooms. Amenities include an impressive library, art maker-space, mindfulness room, spacious music hall, and indoor play zones. Adhering to the UK’s EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum, our bilingual educational model ensures that each class is taught by two instructors—one international and one Chinese—along with dedicated teaching assistants. Our main campus, which opened in Autumn 2022, is located 4 kilometers from the Pre-Prep campus and is tailored for the Prep School (Grades 1-7, UK Years 2-8) and Senior School (Grades 8-12, UK Years 9-13). Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, it includes modern classrooms, specialized laboratories, open learning areas, indoor and outdoor breakout spaces, social areas, sports amenities, and a lively boarding community. Notable facilities encompass a library, health & well-being center, robotics lab, performance halls, theatre, recording studio, sports hall, swimming pool, martial arts room, and extensive outdoor sports and recreational areas.
