Te Karaka Area School is looking for a passionate English teacher to join our team in a permanent, full-time role teaching Years 9–13.

Our kura sits in the heart of Te Karaka, just outside Tūranganui-a-Kiwa (Gisborne), and is proud of the strong sense of whanaungatanga and community that runs through our school. As a small rural kura, relationships matter here - our staff know their students well and work closely with whānau to support our rangatahi to succeed.

We’re looking for a kaiako who can inspire a love of literature, language, and storytelling, while supporting students to achieve success in NCEA Levels 1–3.

About the role

You will:

  • Teach English across Years 9-13
  • Deliver engaging programmes aligned with The New Zealand Curriculum
  • Support students working towards NCEA
  • Build positive relationships with ākonga, whānau and colleagues
  • Contribute to the wider life of the kura

We’d love someone who:

  • Is an NZ-registered teacher
  • Has good knowledge of secondary English and NCEA
  • Is passionate about supporting literacy and student achievement
  • Demonstrates a commitment to our kura values of angitu (success), whanaungatanga (relationships), rangatiratanga (leadership), manaakitanga (support), and whakaute (respect)
  • Enjoys working as part of a supportive team

Why join Te Karaka Area School?

  • A welcoming and supportive kura environment
  • Small class sizes and strong relationships with students
  • The chance to make a real difference for our rangatahi
  • A school that values te ao Māori, culture and community
  • School housing available for the successful applicant

If you’re a motivated English teacher who enjoys working in a close-knit school community and helping students thrive, we’d love to hear from you.
