‘One of the things we value most about Ardgowan School is its strong “country school” feel. There is a real sense of community where staff, students, and whānau know each other well and relationships are important. The smaller, supportive environment helps students feel safe, valued, and confident to be themselves. Protecting and nurturing this sense of connection and belonging is something that makes Ardgowan special.’
This comment from a parent captures the essence of our wonderful school, situated on the outskirts of Oamaru. As we seek a new principal to lead our 125 students and 14 staff, our priority is to appoint an experienced educator who understands and values the character expressed in this parent perspective. Our community has identified other attributes they want to see in their new principal:
Approachable, friendly and able to build strong relationships
Willing to interact with students and be visible in and around classrooms
A sense of humour
A clear and effective communicator
This position does not have a teaching component, although students have indicated they would enjoy their principal teaching them “occasionally”. This will allow the principal to focus on leading our experienced and capable teachers in their practice and continuing to grow student achievement.
Becoming the new principal at Ardgowan School is an outstanding opportunity for someone who wishes to lead in a positive, supportive and attractive environment. Oamaru and the wider North Otago region offer a wonderful lifestyle, with lakes, rivers and beaches nearby, as well as easy access to walking and cycling in the surrounding hills. It is a place where individuals and families can truly thrive.
