We have multiple vacancies across Year 7–13.

Te Whare Kounga is seeking enthusiastic and passionate kaiako to join our kura for full-time positions. We welcome applications from experienced registered and beginning teachers who are committed to growing academic, cultural and social excellence in a nurturing, learning environment for our ākonga and whānau.

We encourage applications from primary and secondary-trained kaiako who are excited to teach in Te Whare Kounga. Experience with NCEA is an advantage.

As a charter school based in Te Wairoa, we have developed our own place-based, local curriculum grounded in te ao Māori, tuakiritanga, with high academic expectations. Our learning is shaped by our connection to our whenua, our stories, and our community. 

At Te Whare Kounga, our passion for te taiao is led by our kaiako. We practice tautiaki in action through service, leadership, accountability, while caring for one another and our environment. 

The successful applicants will:

  • Demonstrate strong, adaptive teaching practice and a commitment to lifting achievement for diverse learners through individualised learning.
  • Design engaging, place-based learning that connects curriculum to our whenua, our stories, and our community.
  • Hold high expectations for academic excellence and support senior pathways, including NCEA.
  • Value and uphold te ao Māori, integrating te reo Māori me ona tikanga authentically while continuing your own learning.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with ākonga, whānau, and colleagues.
  • Show initiative, integrity, and a willingness to contribute to the wider life and the growth of our ākonga at Te Whare Kounga.

Beginning teachers will receive structured mentoring and support towards full certification.

Full-time position | NZ registration (or eligibility) required | Start date: Term 3 2026
