HoD Physical Education

St Patrick’s College, Silverstream is a Catholic, Marist boys’ school with a proud tradition of excellence in education, sport, and character formation. We are seeking an outstanding and experienced educator to lead our physical education department.

The role

This is a key middle leadership position responsible for the strategic direction,
delivery, and ongoing development of physical education, health, food and
nutrition, within the College. The successful applicant will lead a committed team and inspire students to strive for excellence in both curriculum and co-curricular programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide effective leadership of the physical education department
• Deliver and oversee high-quality teaching and learning programmes from Years 9–13
• Ensure strong student achievement at senior levels, including NCEA Physical Education
• Lead curriculum development and assessment practices aligned with the NZ Curriculum
• Mentor and support staff to build capability and consistency of practice
• Promote and support the College’s extensive co-curricular sport programme
• Uphold and actively contribute to the Catholic, Marist special character of the College

About you 

• A NZ-registered teacher with proven leadership experience or readiness to step into leadership
• Demonstrated success teaching senior NCEA physical education 
• Strong curriculum knowledge and a commitment to high academic standards
• A relational leader with excellent communication and organisational skills
• Willingness to contribute to the wider life of the school, including sport and co-curricular activities
• Commitment to supporting the special character of a Catholic school
