About This Role

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead departmental planning, including curriculum mapping, assessment planning, and alignment with school priorities and external examination requirements.

  • Manage, support, and develop departmental staff through mentoring, lesson observations, performance review, and the promotion of high-quality teaching practice.

  • Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured English lessons

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners and support academic progress at all levels

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment that promotes high expectations and student engagement

  • Use formative and summative assessment effectively to monitor progress, inform teaching, and raise attainment

  • Support students’ academic, social, and emotional development in line with IB learner profile attributes

  • Prepare students effectively for external examinations at IGCSE and A Level

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop curriculum, share best practice, and continuously improve teaching and learning.

 

 

Requirements:

 

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, or a related field

  • A PGCE / PGDE or equivalent   

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching English at Secondary School level

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as HOD

  • Experience teaching IGCSE and/or A Level English is a most

  • Strong classroom management and behaviour management skills

  • Proven ability to support and accelerate student progress

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Fluent or native-level proficiency in English

 

Desirable

  • Experience teaching the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)

  • Experience working in international school settings

£35,000 - £55,000 (Tax-Free Equivalent)
