We are currently seeking a passionate and committed Secondary Drama & English Teacher to join our team in August 2026. The ideal applicant will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons, fostering a positive classroom environment, and actively participating in the school community.

The Role

Thames British School is on the lookout for a well-qualified, native-level English-speaking Drama & English teacher for a full-time role starting on August 25, 2026.

The ideal candidate will have a true passion for the subject and experience in teaching secondary school students up to the age of 18.

This position is open to both experienced educators and newly qualified teachers. Your enthusiasm for teaching will motivate students across all key stages, including IGCSE and A Level.

Candidates should be familiar with and willing to integrate ICT into their teaching practices. We seek an energetic team player who is eager to engage in extracurricular activities.

The teacher will maintain consistently high standards for student behavior, engagement, and performance. They will effectively utilize formative and summative assessments, including Cambridge assessment criteria, A Level requirements, and externally examined components, to inform lesson planning, provide targeted feedback, and ensure strong examination results.

The successful candidate will collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students, contributing to curriculum development and the overall academic vision of an international Cambridge school. They will fully engage in the pastoral care system, uphold safeguarding responsibilities in line with statutory requirements and school policies, and actively participate in the wider school community, including enrichment activities and academic mentoring.

Head of School, Head of Secondary, Head of Department, Secondary students, and parents/carers.

Key Responsibilities

● Design and implement lessons tailored to a variety of age groups and abilities.

● Evaluate student work, provide timely and constructive feedback, and maintain detailed records of student progress and development.

● Stay updated on subject knowledge through ongoing professional development (both guided and self-directed) and create new curriculum materials as necessary.

● Select and employ a range of learning resources and equipment.

● Prepare students for qualifications and external examinations.

● Effectively manage student behavior in the classroom and on school premises, applying appropriate measures for misbehavior using the Consequence System, awarding House Points, and nominating students for Student of the Week.

● Assume pastoral responsibilities, including serving as a form tutor and supporting students through academic or personal challenges.

● Communicate with parents and carers about student progress and engage in departmental meetings, parents' evenings, and school training events.

● Collaborate with professionals such as learning mentors and career advisors.

● Assist the work of teaching assistants, technicians, trainee teachers, and newly qualified teachers.

● Meet with other professionals to discuss the unique needs and progress of individual students.

● Organize and participate in extracurricular activities, including trips, social events, and sports.

● Engage in observations and learning walks.

● Attend key school events, such as Family BBQs and Open Days (if required).

● Create an environment where students can express themselves freely without fear of discrimination or harm.

● Foster a safe, purpose-driven, and stimulating learning environment for students, grounded in mutual respect, and establish a framework for discipline using various strategies, consistently applying praise, sanctions, and rewards.

● Manage classes effectively, employing methods that cater to students' needs to motivate and challenge them.

● Maintain positive relationships with students, exercising appropriate authority and acting decisively when necessary.

● Serve as a positive role model, consistently demonstrating the attitudes, values, and behaviors expected of students.

● Uphold high expectations for behavior, encouraging self-control and independence among all learners.

● Complete duties as directed by the Head of Secondary, ensuring the promotion and safeguarding of children and young people within the school, and report any concerns following established school protocols.

Team Working and Collaboration

● Participate in relevant meetings and professional development opportunities at the school that address learners' needs and curriculum organization, including pastoral care and assemblies.

● Collaborate as a team member, seeking opportunities to work with colleagues and share effective practices.

● Support new and existing staff, including the induction and assessment of new teachers, those undergoing induction periods, and, when appropriate, threshold assessments.

● Ensure that colleagues collaborating with you are adequately involved in supporting student learning and comprehend their expected roles.

● Engage as needed in the review, development, and management of activities related to curriculum, organization, and pastoral functions of the school.

● Provide coverage for absent colleagues when necessary.

Parent, Student, and Community Relationships

● Ensure the safety and well-being of all students through positive reinforcement and high expectations for behavior and conduct.

● Inform the Head of Secondary about any serious incidents involving students or parent concerns, working collaboratively with ESLT, SLT, and the Safeguarding Team to address issues promptly and respectfully.

● Build and maintain relationships with Secondary School parents and the community, establishing regular and appropriate communication with all members of the school environment.

● Engage Secondary School parents as active partners in their children’s education.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

● A recognized teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or iPGCE).

● A degree in Education or a related field.

● Experience teaching in a British or international setting is advantageous.
