Deputy Head (Academic)
The Role
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding, suitably qualified and experienced person to this senior leadership position.
The Deputy Head (Academic) leads the Teaching and Learning of the school, works closely with the Heads of Department and oversees the curriculum, reporting and the public examination results. The Deputy Head (Academic) reports to the Director and Head and works alongside the Key Stage Coordinators and Heads of Department.

Ø A passion for developing Teaching and Learning
Ø A good degree
Ø Successful teaching experience
Ø A proven track record of leadership at either middle or senior management level
Ø The ability to inspire confidence and respect amongst colleagues, pupils and all relevant audiences
Ø A high level of administrative efficiency and communication
Ø An interest in the Co-curricular life of the School
Roles and responsibilities of the Deputy Head (Academic)

Strategic and General Management
Ø To deputise for the Head in his absence
Ø To be a member of the SLT and, as such, to participate in all areas of policy development and the strategic management of the school
Ø To be responsible for the review and evaluation of sections of the school’s strategic plan
Ø To report to the Director/Governing Body on academic policy and academic performance as may be required
Ø To help to develop, communicate and implement a vision for the Teaching and Learning within the School
Ø To assist with day to day management of the school
Ø To routinely attend school events as required
Ø To teach around a third of a normal timetable
Academic Policy and Management
Ø To lead the development of academic policy
Ø To manage and develop the curriculum
Ø To liaise with the Head over staffing
Ø To lead on the administration of option choices
Ø To lead the Departmental Development Planning cycle
Ø To lead on Academic Data and usage of, Assessment and Reporting
Ø To develop and refine the process of academic budgeting
Ø To develop further academic liaison with the Junior School
Ø To collate predicted grades and produce exam analysis
Leading Staff
Ø To assist with the process of selection of new staff
Ø To advise on the deployment of members of the teaching staff
Ø To provide support and advice to members of the Teaching Staff and to play a role in their appraisal
Ø To lead the continuing improvement in standards of teaching and learning through the Heads of Department and all staff
Ø To provide support and advice to Heads of Department and to lead Departmental Review
Ø To oversee the work of the Examinations Officer and Learning Support
Ø To coordinate with the Careers Advisor
Ø To ensure that visually the classroom environment enthuses and engages
Ø To assist in the annual planning of a staff CPD programme
Ø To monitor and advise on schemes of work
Ø To review and write comments on reports; to provide guidance to Form Tutors
Parental
Ø To respond to concerns raised by parents, pupils and staff along with other members of the SLT
Ø To oversee and advise on contact with parents about general academic delivery and progress
Ø To respond to parental concerns as appropriate
Ø To be available from the day before public examinations results days and thereafter to advise pupils and parents
