The Trustees of Fulwood Academy seek to appoint an Assistant Principal with responsibility for Inclusion & SEND.

In 2023: our Ofsted inspection recognised us as “Good” in all areas, you will join a fabulous team of staff and pupils and a happy school community. We are a forward-thinking, inclusive secondary school committed to excellence for every learner. We Care, We Challenge, We Commit are at the heart of all we do, and you will be involved in a very exciting phase of Fulwood’s journey to be an Outstanding school.

This role offers an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious, driven leader to take strategic oversight of SEND, inclusion, careers, reading development, SMSC, personal development, and welfare across our Academy. You will join a collaborative senior leadership team dedicated to ensuring our pupils thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

You will join a Leadership team who share the passion to develop pupils learning with strong subject knowledge, who are committed to providing the best learning opportunities possible for the pupils of Fulwood.

The Assistant Principal (Inclusion & SEND) will play a strategic and operational leadership role in ensuring that the school provides an inclusive, ambitious, and supportive environment where every pupil can thrive, regardless of background, need, or starting point.

You will lead and develop the school’s provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and other vulnerable groups, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice. Champion personal development across the school, overseeing programmes that support pupils’ character education, wellbeing, belonging, behaviour, attendance, safeguarding, and preparation for life beyond school.

You will lead on developing whole-school approaches to improving SEND outcomes, including the strategic oversight of literacy interventions, and initiatives to raise the reading ages of all pupils. You will embed inclusive practice through curriculum, teaching and professional development, ensuring that adaptations for pupils with SEND are purposeful, consistent and measurable. In doing so, they will ensure we care through thoughtful support, challenge through ambitious expectations, and commit to securing strong outcomes for every learner.

You will take strategic responsibility for the mapping, coherence and delivery of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (SMSC), personal development and the promotion of Fundamental British Values (FBV) across the curriculum and wider school life. This includes ensuring that provision is well-sequenced, regularly reviewed, and embedded within both academic and pastoral contexts, equipping pupils to become responsible, respectful, and active citizens.

Working as part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), promote a culture of high expectations, inclusivity, and aspiration, supporting the wider school vision of excellence for all, and building strong partnerships with parents, external agencies, and the wider community.
